As a music teacher, my philosophy is rooted in the belief that every student is an individual first and a musician second. The journey to discovering and nurturing each student's voice is unique. I strive to foster self-reliance and confidence in my students by creating an environment where they are encouraged to take risks, make mistakes, and grow from the process. I believe that music is a dialogue—not only with the past, but also with the present. Music is alive, and it is my responsibility as an educator to ensure that students understand and engage with the historical/cultural context of their work, while also bringing their own voices to it. I am committed to a science-based approach to teaching voice that emphasizes both technique and self-assessment. I recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all pedagogy, particularly when it comes to voice. Each student’s instrument, even within the same voice type, is different. Additionally, the genre and style of their choice requires tailoring one's approach. Inclusivity is also central to my approach. I actively seek out and incorporate works that represent marginalized voices, ensuring that students experience a diverse range of music. My goal is to be a supportive, compassionate teacher who offers constructive feedback with empathy and care. I draw on my own experience as a musician, knowing that the journey does not get easier; as musicians we grow stronger in our self-assurance. I strive to make my students feel seen and empowered in ways I wish I had felt during my studies. I aim to guide my students through that journey with patience and unwavering belief in their potential.
